The Power Of A Healthy Mind

Our mind is our everything. It’s where all our functions are initiated. It’s from where our bodies get the might to do all that we set out to do.

Think of your body as you would think of your car, it needs to be taken care of, needs to be regularly serviced, needs usual cleaning amongst other things, to be able to serve you well on a daily basis; but won’t quite work without fuel right? And that fuel, folks, is your mind.

Your mind is constantly learning. Your mind is persistently working. Your mind has the power to heal. Your mind is limitless.

Which is also why it should be understood and looked after better for us to be able to accomplish more with its power. Moreover, mental and physical health are two sides of the same coin. It has been proven time and again that those who are fitter mentally are stronger physically. There is a common thread between mental and physical fitness, and there also are little ways in which you could improve the performance of your mind daily, have a read to find out what exercises you could do while sitting on the chair you’re reading this from:

  1. Take some time out for yourself everyday.

This could be as simple as reading a book, writing a note on how your day went or finally putting that bath bomb to use. Anything that gives you happiness while being non-exhaustive.

  2. Consume more fruits and vegetables.

We’ve heard this one several times, haven’t we? Well, it’s because it’s true! It is recommended to have generous portions of fruits and vegetables throughout the day as they have a positive impact on our mood.

  3. Work hard, sleep hard.

This is as basic as it gets, and yet the one that’ll yield you most results. You should be getting around 8 hours of sleep every night. If you struggle to get enough sleep in, then you might want to start by setting up a sleep alarm. Also, attempt limiting your screen-time 30 minutes before you decide to get to bed.

  4. Trying your hands at something new.

As we grow older we get busy with work, we get busy with our social lives, and we gradually stop attempting new skills. Learning a new activity helps build self-esteem, helps you connect with more people and also creates a sense of purpose. So go ahead and think of a new activity that you’d like to learn!

  5. Mindfulness.

Paying attention to the present is what this one is all about. Mindfulness helps you focus on your thoughts, feelings, body and the world around you. It helps you understand and enjoy life better. Start today by being attentive to not just your surroundings, but to yourself too.

  6. Do any physical activity for 30 minutes.

We are serious about the ‘ANY’ in the above sentence. Try getting about 30 minutes of anything from walking, skipping, skating, swimming, cycling, jogging, hula-hooping, playing a sport or any other activity that makes you feel like you’ve exerted yourself. Exercising can uplift you because when you workout, endorphins get released in the body, these impact our mood in a positive way, and in a big way.

  7. Slow down.

We’re constantly on our phones, constantly messaging, constantly consuming all sorts of content. Let’s just pause for a bit, put our phones away and do something that doesn’t need us to depend on anything else. No person or object. Just you and your own self as your company. Now shut your eyes and just breathe. Pay attention to your breathing. Observe how your mind is feeling. Try removing 5 minutes towards this and feel the difference.

Over and above this are technical reasons why you ought to give your mind time, these vary from Physiological, Biochemistry, Mind Body Coordination, Psychological and more.
