What is emotional intelligence?
We’ve heard this term being tossed around but do we have an idea of what this really means?
To put it across quite simply, emotional intelligence is the quality of identifying and controlling one’s emotions while also being able to guide someone else’s.
Your emotional intelligence comprises of 5 different characteristics:
Enjoying your work, pushing yourself to achieve goals while not being solely motivated by monetary gains is what means to be truly motivated.
Being able to steer relationships in a way that is mutually beneficial is what makes one’s socially skillful. How you interact with people and how you let people interact with you says a lot about your social skills.
This is our capability to acknowledge and accept your strengths, limitations, emotions and actions and to be conscious of how they affect those around you.
This characteristic goes hand-in-hand with the previous one as if one isn’t conscious of their actions then one cannot exercise restraint on the impulsive actions. Self control is the quality of being able to be calm through testing situations and not letting your communication suffer.
This is when you’re able to place yourself in someone else’s shoes and understand their predicament or why they do things a certain way. Communicating your empathy helps you earn respect and shows your sincerity.
