Psychomotor therapy is a paramedical field, therapeutic method addressed for children, adolescents, adults and the elderly with motor, behavioural, relational or emotional difficulties. It focuses on the prevention, screening, and rehabilitation of psychomotor disorders at any stage of life.
It studies the interactions between perception, feelings, thoughts, movements, and behavior. We observe how these interactions manifest themselves at the body level and influence movement. The body is the main role and work for psychomotor therapist. Beyond the body, psychomotor therapy considers the person as one entity, as well as his physical, social, and cultural environment.
It helps to develop:
It also enhances the patient’s self-confidence and their progress.
It is aimed at a population of all ages, regardless of its difficulties or particularities.
We work with disorders or various motor disorders, most notably:
Intervention begins with an initial intake with the parents or the patient itself if it is an adult; we ask for all details concerning the patient (anamnesis, medical reports), followed by an evaluation based on observation and various standardized tests (both quantitative and qualitative) related to the reason for the consultation and the age of the person.
It is followed by a detailed written psychomotor report, including a therapeutic plan with short- and medium-term objectives and the needed recommendations for home and school.
We work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including speech therapists, psychologists, educational psychologists, psychiatrists, special educators, and parents and schools, to ensure collaboration and progress for each person. We refer to other specialists if needed.
We use a wide variety of tests like Movement ABC for dynamic and static coordination, the Draw-a-Man Test of Royer for body representation, NP-MOT for muscle tone and regulation, TEA-CH for executive functions, and NEPSY, systematic detection of writing problems (SOS) for handwriting and quality speed.
In conclusion, psychomotor therapy stimulates and integrates motor, cognitive, and affective skills as inherent aspects of human behavior, thereby enabling a person to act autonomously within his own psychosocial context. The goal is to stimulate a positive self-image and personal well-being in balanced social relationships.
