Are you locked within because of the lock-down?

2020 has not just been the year of personal and universal financial crunches but also the year of the mental crunch.

What is a Mental Crunch, you may ask?

It is when we have gone through so many hurdles and jumps and surprises and setbacks and unforeseen scenarios, that we don’t even realize just how much we have endured mentally. This mental health conversation is usually forgotten as we end up believing that this is what we ought to endure, which isn’t true at all.

You may or may not have heard of this example before, so we’re going to go ahead and share this one anyway as it puts across the message so very simply. In fact, we’d even go a step further and ask you to hold a glass of water while reading the next few lines. That glass of water in your hand is the pressure you deal with, while your hand is your mental capacity. At first it seems easy, it’s manageable but as time passes you begin to feel the weight of that glass, you realize how it’s now uncomfortable for you. The fact of the matter is that the weight of the glass hasn’t changed but to continue carrying it does strain you. The only difference between this example and our lives is that in the example we understand we need to let that glass down while in our actual lives we tend to put the blame on other factors such as lack of sleep, too much work, too little rest, so on and so forth but continue to carry on with our day-to-day affairs anyway. This habit is what leads to a Mental Crunch.

We have been locked down indoors for most of this year, the last thing we need is to be locked from within too. 2020’s lack of social interaction only adds fuel to our present state of mental well-being. So we ask, why should the World Mental Health Day only be celebrated on the 10th of October? We are here to ensure no one has to go through a mental breakdown, no one should feel misunderstood, no one should endure a discomfort that they cannot comprehend.
