Importance of microbreaks at work

We are constantly told and reminded and mailed and CC’d and BCC’d throughout the day about work tasks but how often does that happen when it comes to taking a break?

Offices are usually high-pressure environments where you are expected to be constantly focused and at the top of your game round-the-clock. Besides, workplaces have only gotten even more pressurizing since the pandemic.

We know of what breaks are but today let’s introduce you to microbreaks. As the name suggests, they are the briefer version of the standard hour long workday break; only much more effective.

Research has shown that these tiny breaks not only help you relax, but also prevent typical desk injuries, help employees view their jobs in a more positive light and are powerful in boosting your productivity levels.

Let’s give you a few quick ways you can take a microbreak during a busy workday:
  • Going for a casual stroll in/ around the office building.
  • Making yourself a cup of tea.
  • Listening to a few of your favourite songs.
  • Giving your body a good stretch, preferably in an isolated place so as to avoid the stares. You’re very welcome.

These are just a few to get you started with your microbreaks. Try them, add more to the list and always remember that it’s about balance; so the next time you feel exhausted, take some time out for YOU because that is important too.
